Two people have been killed in Sweden as a major winter storm, named Storm Johannes, moved across the Nordic region, causing extensive travel disruption and widespread power outages.
The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute had issued alerts for strong winds across much of northern Sweden.
According to local media and police, one man in his 50s died after being struck by a falling tree at the Kungsberget ski resort in southern Sweden.
Separately, the utility company Hemab reported that one of its employees died in a storm-related accident while working in the field.
Tens of thousands of households in Sweden, Norway, and Finland have been left without electricity.
In Sweden alone, the TT news agency reported that more than 40,000 homes lost power and numerous train services were cancelled.
The severe weather has led to the cancellation of several flights, ferry routes, and rail services across the Nordic nations.
Roads and railway lines have also been severely affected by the storm conditions.
In Norway's northern Nordland county, the fire department responded to more than 200 weather-related incidents, according to broadcaster NRK.
